While waiting at Luxor's airport to catch a late evening flight out to Cairo on my last evening in Egypt, I saw this note inside the airport's glass-encased suggestion box. Someone had written "Leave Egypt. Never come back. All what is wanted is $".
An interesting sentiment. I don't totally agree with it, but I can definitely understand where that feeling came from. I did often feel like a walking ATM machine for the locals, and everyone was trying to extract as much $ out of me as possible. Negotiating the cab fare everytime I hailed a taxi cab was stress-inducing. Having said that, I was very happy for my trip experience and would definitely recommend people to visit the country. You just need to do some research beforehand and set some expectations. Accept that you will be swindled a few times and just go with the flow. If I'm ever in the area again I'll definitely try to swing by Egypt for a few days. There are too many things to see that one cannot possibly cover it in just one short trip.
